The designer Catalina Estrada has made this scarf full of history. This handkerchief is a Jayeechi, a Wayúu song to express your emotions...
"I ask you, our creator, to please send Juya (god of water) so that women are not carrying weight on their backs, the earth produces food, the animals are not thirsty, the birds sing louder, the nature flourishes again, that is what I ask of you with my song.”
This handkerchief was created to carry this message and the resources collected are used to help Wayuu communities that do not have access to drinking water.
The resources collected with these handkerchiefs will be used to bring water to families of the Wayuu indigenous communities in La Guajira, Colombia. The donation received for a handkerchief represents approximately one trip of 5,000 liters of drinking water that is enough to sustain a family of 5 people for 20 days.
